Im trying to use a SWF as the main logo or I guess you could call it the main banner but when I load the file I get a big X and it wont display it. I have seen it done before. anyone know how?

Thanks

Mark

Although it MAY be possible to specify a SWF (Flash) file as your logo (Under site settings), I suspect this won't work.

To display Flash anywhere on a DNN site, I believe you can use the core Media Module (only on latest versions of DNN). This may contrain where the Flash image appears though.

Otherwise you'll need to create your own "Skin" which then allows you to place a Flash image wherever you wish on your page. Search the "Skinning (Make It Hot!)" portion of the Forums for Flash and there should be some tutorials.

You will NOT be able to have the Flash do your navigation for you apparently, from what I've read.

AFAIK, with the nav that's correct due to the fact that the Navigation is created dynamically by DNN and you'd have to custom-code your Flash to keep up with the menu changes which is no easy task. However, if anyone knows a way to make this happen, please feel free to share as I've been trying to wrap my noodle around that problem for a while now.

Not-So-Silent Bob, I think your posts were most definitive about this and what I was referring to. Frequent-poster Nina has some skins available that use Flash I know, but don't think they use it for any navigation.

I had some ideas about having the Flash call fixed urls (probably just use Request.QueryString like, Default.aspx?RedirectToPage=1737), but that still requires having one table to maintain that translates the 'fixed urls' (used by Flash) to the 'ever-changing' tabid's (used by DNN). This is somewhat similar to the free and $$ modules that do this URL redirection I believe.

I've always wondered when DNN changes a tabid? I'm currently hardcoding them into some links and haven't been bitten, but suppose it is bad practice?

I was probably a bit sparse in my last post. It *is* possible to have nav in your flash that points to the static tabid's, I've done this several times, and simply use an external variable file (.txt usually) to make it easy for others to change the URLs without having to re-edit the FLA/SWF files. What I was talking about earlier is I haven't seen a way to integrate the "dynamic" menu system (a la SolPart) into a flash system. I'm quite sure it's possible, but I have neither the patience nor the aptitude in AS to make it happen. I would be very interested in an auto-updating flash module, as I'm sure many would.
