In your web.config, look at your authentication node

specifically the TIMEOUT value. I had timeout="100000" and changing it to 60 appears to fix.

Setting to 10000 also appears to work

Just to confirm. This section here or this line.

<anonymousIdentification enabled="true" cookieName=".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookieTimeout="100000" cookiePath="/" cookieRequireSSL="false" cookieSlidingExpiration="true" cookieProtection="None" domain="" />

Actually I think you mean this section now.. My timeout is set to 5. Going to try and break my working site, which by the way is set to 60. Going to try and set it to 5 like my test/dev site and see what it does.
<authentication mode="Forms">
      <forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="5" cookieless="UseCookies" />
 </authentication>

Correct, the authentication mode="Forms" section. Odd that 5 causes the problem though

Um.. It must be a combination of settings or ???. I just tried to set my dnndev.me site to 5 and it had no problem. Set it to 10000 same no problem. Goign to try and update my test/dev site which should break it like it did last time. Than I try to apply your same fix.
