Hi,

I am really new to DNN so sorry if this is a newbie queston.  I want to create a site that contains hierarchic groups that are isolated from each other.  In this particular case it is an overall site for a district sports association.  Let's say County Volleyball.  There will be a set of pages for the whole county, securing those is easy.  At then next level down I want individual clubs to be able to share the same page design, but NOT to edit each other's data.

Town A Volleyball Club can upload their pictures and text, Town B Volleyball Club can upload their pictures and text, but Town A cannot interfere with Town B's stuff.

AIUI the DNN security model seems to let me allow access to all pages at club level or none of them.  Do I have that right?  Is there a way to acheive what I want to do?

Thanks,

Richard

Best wishes,

hierarchical user groups are not supported by dnn core and I cannot remember having heared about a 3rd party module for this.

Sebastian, maybe you can answer this then, what are "Role Groups" to be used for?

These can be found under Admin menu, Security Roles. There one can add either a Security Role or a Role Group. (I believe Role Groups are pretty new too.)

Can you or someone give a simple example why Role Groups exist and how they are meant to be used? Is it just a simple way to group Security Roles (but without any intelligence) -- since I think I've read that some solutions out there create a new Security Role for every user on the site? I was hoping they might allow some attributes be set at a higher level and then those attributes woudl be 'inherited' down to any sublevels.

Role Groups are useful for huge Web Sites like DotNetNuke.com, where are dozends or > 100 Groups, to make navigation easier. Currently there is no intelligence behind this concept AFAIK.
