I had a wonderful site exported it and went to fresh server and ran through Site Wizard. I get to finish and that's it - it just stalls there. I expanded duration in config file but same thing. There have been files uploaded but not a complete setup.

Anyone know the reason? What a drag to create all those pages again!!

And when I'm waiting for the file 'finish' how long should I wait? I have config file set to 10 minutes but have tried longer. And if I run wizard again does it overwrite what i have. - It doesn't seem to but I still don't get a complete installation.

Frustrated!!

Shew!!! Got very frustrated. did complete installation again new database new dotnetnuke. But this time with the template files in place with the config files all correct. I can see from the database that my pages exist only I can't get the page to dispaly. The installation was not successful I got this error -

Server Error in '/' Application.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

From what I can gather this is an asp.net permissions problem - but I have all the permissions set same as before. Do I give up or is there a solution?

Okay firstly is there actually anyone out there that has answers as it just seems like people with problems here.

I have tried 2 methods actually 3 of trying to install my previous site

1) export template on 'working site' and placing the 2 files in default folder and running wizard from new site

2) exporting template, preconfiguring dotnetnukeinstall.resources file and point to the exported template

3) create new dotnetnuke site and point to backup database from 'working site'

Nothing works. Please desperate now......

Did I make a HUGE mistake going with dotnetnuke?

  • which DNN version do you use
  • does both portals (export and import) have the same modules and module versions installed?
  • be cautions with modules, that have multiple module definitions like blog. There is a known issue, that will be fixed in next DNN version
  • please be aware, that only modules supporting iPortable interface are included in templates.

  • 4.0.3 on internal and I thought I would catch some updates with 4.3.4 big mistake but I don't think I can back track now.
  • same modules
  • I'm using no special modules just standard

I have weird problems accuring now. I use the [DROPDOWNACTIONS] in my containers which work and display fine on my internal server but on the live site I actually have the dropdown dialog (although empty) displaying.

Just to mention display container in page settings and the 'allow print' are checked. If I take off the display container I don't get the printing option.
