I couldn't find any post on this but first want to check.
The forums threads are all ordered on the "last post".
I think for a forum like "Make it Hot" it would be great if you could also (the title as link) order the threads on "posts" or even "views".
Now some threads easily "disappear" between all the active posts and are sometimes unanswered.
I always look for unanswered posts, to see if I can help, the order function would make this a lot easier.

Or has this already been suggested?

Timo, I don't think anyone has ever asked for this. To touch on why I feel this isn't good is really two basic reasons:

  • Forum software I use doesn't do this. (Trying to use other vendors like phpbb, ubb, CS as examples)
  • This will be a hog on resources.

I am mostly worried about the resources being eaten up in a heavily used environment. Now, that being said I have been thinking about creating some type of answer system. This would entail more than just an unanswered posts, but probably work in the ability to set post status overall. (IE. just because a post has responses, doesn't mean its answered)

You are absolutely right.
There are posts with 10 replies without being solved....
If I understand correctly one could set the thread to being solved / answered or not.
That would be great and u much better solution then mine.
(My work is mostly not for a heavily used environment, so I can make the collumn heads sort without a problem)

Maybe that could also solve another minor issue.
Some people tend to forget their threads....
So you could make three states
- active threads
- threads that are solved
- threads where nothing has happended for a certain period
(and the person who started the thread would get a notification mail... "Is you thread answered?")

By the way, please don't see these kind of suggestions as demand or something like that.
I have a conceptual design background and I'm used to brainstorming all day long.....
Thanks

Ej Mafkees (Timo), I welcome the suggestions. Although it may not seem like it, I definately keep an eye on all community suggestoins. I think this will become apperent in the next release as several things I keep having requests for are finally making it in. This module has been a constant battle of my limited time, adding features and fixing bugs. I try to pay attention to details but without a solid testing procedure I have found all enhancements bring about bugs. Because of this and my recently available time, I have really been trying to address the roots of the module which I find more important than anything done to date as I really believe this refactoring will eliminate the majority of the bugs seen today. I keep asking the community for feedback and only ask patience in return and this is finally about to pay off for everyone.

I do like the notification idea, btw, but I am reluctant to add another email notification until we have this running in a background thread. You figure, with a setup here of 50k+ users, in a general forum this can easily generate a minimum of 1k emails for a single post. I have just finished refactoring the entire email system but do not plan on moving it to a seperate thread this release. (This requires a core service really).

I definately will keep the notificaiton idea in mind and probably start some of the prep work now as I want to get all the notification templates in there now even if they aren't exposed this will keep them in my mind. I am debating if I want to integrate the post status this release or a future one now since I am working w/ the PostInfo object now as we speak. I'll try to keep you guys all current with my progress as I continue to solidify this release and its goals. (No roadmap for this as I am really trying to examine everything via code to determine what is most important) One thing I have really worked on is performance, btw.

Just out of curiousity, you live in/around Eindhoven?

To me it seems you listen very carefully, since you react to the suggestions very quickly.
We must be either in the same time zone, or you don't sleep much...
Eindhoven: Yes.
