Hey

I created a simple HelloWorld portal in DNN 4.3.4 using visual studio 2005 + Starter Kit. With simple I mean here a very simple portal, I just created a new DNN project in visual studio and built it

After I created a simple module (using C#) and installed the module definition by running the sql script in the file 01.00.00.SqlDataProvider located in the module folder \DesktopModules\HelloTest\, I get this error when I try to run my portal:

This application is currently offline. To enable the application, remove the app_offline.htm file from the application root directory.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

I don't know how the app_offline.htm file got there, but it is a .NET 2.0 feature to shutdown the application when it is found in the web site root. If you remove or rename, that message should go away.

Hmm strange, I din't get such error yesterday!

Okay I deleted the app_offline.htm, restarted the portal and everything seems to work... But when I login as "host" I get the error message again. When I look in the project folder I see that the app_offline.htm had been added... as this is a .net specific question, I'll post the question there

app_offline.htm is a built in mechanism to stop a website from processing. Are you using a hosting service?  That sounds like someone may have access to your site or your computer and is putting the file there on purpose.

Try deleting it and watch the folder to see if it comes back. If so, someone is either joking with you or they may be in serious trouble. To my knowledge and a search of the source, DotNetNuke would never do it.

Please let us know the results in any case. It may be important.

I deleted app_offline.htm file again and then it works without any trouble. But now 5 hours later when I test the portal again the app_offline.htm file is back again.

My computer has winXP pro (sp2) OS (it's the computer I have the portal on)
I set the aspnet user account to have full controll over the portal folder (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\HelloWorld)

I have now changed the permisson on aspnet account for this project, changed it to not have "full control"
