I have just installed a fresh 4.3.4 DNN
When I add modules to the new portal, the machine “WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\web.config” file gets updated

However this is the wrong web.config file as the updates should be added to the “WebSite\web.config” file

Is there a setting I need to change, in order to ensure the correct web.config is updated?

I removed all write permisions to the machine web.config file and got the following error

ExceptionSystem.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: An error occurred loading a configuration file: Access to the path 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\5gprqdgy.tmp' is denied. there is some evidence to suggest that the web.config error is because I installed this site as a default page instead of a virtual directory
the primary evidence comes with an IIS test

in IIS if you choose properties of any of any non root virtual sites, then the ASP.NET tab
you will see a configuration button, clicking that button and making changes writes to the web site's web.config file

however all default root web sites including this one have two buttons, a global configuration and a standard configuration button
and the global configuration button does infect edit the system web.config file

Unfortunately removing write permisions only resultes in update errors

Is there a place to set DNN to write to the website web.config only
