I've hosted my site www.avalonbeadstore.com with Webhost4life for 5 months now and have had numerous occasions of long term downtime, especially during peak hours of the day when our business is booming. We've lost plenty of money due to this repeated downtime and after several attempts with their support to iron out the problem (which they said EVERY time was due to someone abusing server resources) we are at our wits end. It's a lot of work to research new hosting companies, select one with everything you need, and move your site, but at this point we are willing to do the work. After emailing the CEO very cordially but sternly about this problem, we have received no response but from support saying "Oh, the site is fine. It's up and running." WELL WHAT ABOUT THE HOURS OF DOWNTIME EVERY OTHER DAY?!! The point is these people really don't care whether your site is up or not. There's only so many "No response from server" errors you can get before you have to make a decision to change hosts. We're not looking forward to this.

Bottom line... Don't bother with Webhost4life. It's NOT a lifelong relationship.

phixate, check out ServerIntellect and you will find it a lot better. Their shared hosting is a lot better than WH4L. I moved my site their after I got tired of WH4L. I still have an account at WH4L, but I only use that for testing on sites I don't care if I blow up with new modules. Depending on your budget you may want to go with a VPS solution at ServerIntellect, but I also had a couple of fairly heavy sites on the shared plan for a year and they where fine and I'm not aware of any downtime at all during that year, which was not caused by me and upgrades. I've been on the VPS plan for 3 months and its been great too. They even call me every month just to make sure everything is okay with their serivce and my account. I highly recommend these guys.

Like Bruce I have had a shared account for years at WH4L with about 30 sites on it. Last year the performance got very patchy until they moved me onto a different box - but  I was concerned enough to sign up with another host for some critical sites. However I recently upgraded to a VPS account at WH4L and that really makes all the difference, space, performance and stability. Also you don't have to pay for extra DBs or domain redirects. So I guess you get what you pay for...

A real positive about WH4L is their support, generally very good and responsive. If you sign up use my referral id 'nickvps' ... (I get a commission!)

Regards
Nick
