I installed DNN 4.3.5 from the Starter Kit in VS 2005 to the local IIS on a Windows server 2003. I modified web.config to use SQLServer 2005.  I can run the application from within VS 2005 and in IE as http://localhost/MySite.  But when I try to run it on the same server with http://ServerName/MySite, it changes the URL to http://localhost/MySite.  When I run it from another machine with http://ServerName/MySite, I receive the message "The page cannot be displayed."

Does anyone know how to fix it?

You need to add "ServerName/MySite" as an alias in the Portal Alias table.  You can do this two ways, using the website admin (site settings) or directly in SQL.  I would suggest using Site Settings. 

Here are the steps:

  1. Browse the site from the local machine (where it is installed) http://localhost/MySite
  2. Login as Host
  3. Go to Site Settings
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  5. Click "Add New HTTP Alias"
  6. Add ServerName/MySite
  7. Save
  8. Browse from another PC

If the page is still having issues, restart IIS and browse the site again.

NOTE: Occasionally I have had to edit the PortalAlias table directly from inside SQL so that the Live URL is the top URL i.e. switch the localhost entry with the servername entry, but I don't think you will need to do that.  If you do, be sure to restart IIS after.
