I'm running VS 2005 professional. I followed the instructions to install the starter kit (and saw all the screen shots from the documentation). But when I fire up VS 2005 and select File -> New Web Site... I don't see the DotNetNuke Web Application Fra... under My Templates.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Same here.  I just bought the "Professional DotNetNuke 4" book, downloaded and ran DotNetNuke_4.3.5_StarterKit.vsi, and got all the happy messages.

Fired up MSVS2005 Team Suite, File->New->WebSite, and.... nothing.  Under "My Templates" I have the "Search the web for a template" selection and that's it.

I'm new to dotnetnuke, so I'm pretty stuck.  Isn't the Starter Kit a seperate project?  It doesn't seem to have a forum if it is...

FYI, I am running:
XP Professional SP2, fully patched
IIS installed
AMD 4200+
2GB RAM

Off to try the manual install...

Exact same situation here. I have posted it for some days - unfortunately with no response

I have read some other articels with the same situation and they managed it - you can find some help here - maybe you have more luck !

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/68370/scope/posts/Default.aspx#74980

I personally have done exact what other did - without any positiv result:

I'am new in dnn development, so I will resume what I have done (maybe I did something wrong):

  • extracted the dnn 4.3.5 install to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\geopic
  • made a new sql-server instance
  • modified my web.config settings
  • created the local IIS-path
  • gave all necessary users right-permission to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\geopic
  • installed it via http://localhost/geopic
  • => it works perfectly !!
  • I open up Visual Studio 2005
  • Clicked: File - Open - WebSite
  • Open via local-IIS dialog on GeoPic
  • the whole project is loaded
  • I tested it by compiling it - it runs perfectly
  • I copied the StartKit 4.3.5 to that directory (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\geopic)
  • extracted it
  • installed the file DotNetNuke.vscontent without errors
  • => and it should work => but it doesn't !!
  • Under "My Templates" I have the "Search the web for a template" selection and that's it

Did I have something done wrong ?

And where are all code-behind (*.aspx.vb) files ? I only can see the files for default.aspx, rss.aspx, errorpage.aspx, keepalive.aspx ?

If you have a solution, please let me know :-) - THX !!

Best regards,
Robert

Did you "right-click" on the website in Solutions Explorer and goto "Add new item"?

Check here also:

Hello Mark,

Yes I did it - no change - BUT I solved the problem and found out why it didn't work on my machine :

I have a small network at home and the template-path was on the network-harddisk.

I changed it in Visual Studio 2005 (Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> General -> template location: "C:\Visual Studio 2005\Templates\ProjectTemplates") -> voila !!

Many THX again for your help !

Robert
