As anyone who has followed my previous postings on this subject knows, the current DNN Store does not currently meet our needs. Nor did we have the volunteer resources available to add all the features that were needed to make it suit our needs in the time period we had available to launch our store.
What baffles me is where people get the idea that Open Source necessarily means "free"? Part of the reason that DNN is so successful is that we have cultivated and promoted an ecosystem that recognizes the value of both free AND commercial software. The Free and Open Source modules are great for those people who want to use ithem, but is generally avoided by larger companies until the software becomes more mature and feature complete. The commercial modules and services provide a safe haven for companies that demand support and documentation for their software, that is generally not available from the Open Source developers.
Both sides of this ecosystem have existed since the very beginning of DNN, and we actively nurture both sides of the ecosystem. It is the DNN team that actively sought to have an Open Source eCommerce module built. That does not mean that we don't also see the value in having several large commercial eCommerce modules available as well. Why do some people like CataLook, others like PortalStore, and some find that DNN Store meets their needs? The answer is because everyone has a different set of requirements with a different set of priorities. Having more stores available gives the DNN community more options. Everyone in the world does not drive a Honda Civic, and everyone in the world will not like the DNN Store, no matter how many features you add.
So if you want to support DNN Store and see it grow, then use it and help the Store team to further enhance it. If DNN Store does not meet your needs, then thank goodness there are other solutions available and more on the way. That is what makes the DNN platform so great.
