Hey happy people,

Just to clear the air, I'm pretty much a noob within DotNetNuke and ASP.NET and so forth, so don't expect the highest or even a solid understanding of things <:-).

I'm trying to add a feature to a compent. I basically want a pop-up to show some information contained within in a template related to the item the user clicked. So if we imagine a calendar and the user clicks 25th of febuary, a pop up should open and read from a template explaining how the information related to that date should be formatted. I've had my eye on a component called "site wide announcements" which is basically an improved version of the regular announcments. They appear to use an aspx page to display this type of info.

A component which also uses template is the "default" one created with the DNN Starter kit. Using that I've tried to create a pop up which does as I want. Unfortunately, some of the code used has some objects that I cannot use unless I inherit from "PortalModuleBase", and that I apparently may not on an aspx page. One object among others I'm trying to get ahold of is the "Settings" object which contains a lot of information. Among others info about the fields in the table that contains the information related to different dates...

So... If anyone has any comments, suggestions or ideas - I'll be very grateful...

Thanks in advance,

Gazoo

Is there a reason you want to use an .aspx page and not a user control? See: Introduction to DotNetNuke® Module Development for an overview of the recommended method of creating DotNetNuke modules. It is not hard and does not require a lot of code. What you are looking to do is very straightforward.

Hey Michael,

Thanks for the response. Originally I preferred to use an .aspx page because I wanted to immitate an announcement module that already provides the functionality I wish to incorperate. I have tried to use a user control - but I've had some problems. The pop up is supposed to only contain information from the module. More specific - none of the surrounding DotNetNuke functionality/menu/other modules. I have no idea how to "remove" this and show a stripped near-html like template with some sparse information from the module...

Regards,

Gazoo
