i have this problem as well. I've installed dnn twice so far. The first install was using sql server and dnn is the site, there is no virtual folder or anything .. / takes you to the dnn site.

The 2nd site is using sql express and dnn is a virtual folder. I have logged in as both admin and host. In neither case do i get the admin or host menu. On the first site when i login as host, i get the admin and host menus.

I then did another clean install putting it under the main website and the host and admin menu's are gone. Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

In my case the problem was caused by IE security setting.
I enabled the “Scripting - Active scripting” and the menu items become visible.

My admin tab is missing when I log in as admin. My host tab is missing when I log in as host. I installed my dnn site in a virtual directory under the website, and I don't know if that matters.

My Scripting - Active Scripting security setting in IE 7 is enabled.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem? Does anyone know what the problem is?

try to restart the application by editing web.config: add a blank (" ") to the end of the first line and save the file.
