I can not get the installation to work.  I am trying to install DNN 4.3.5.  Sorry for the long post!

My configuration is as follows

1. I am running Win2003 Server Sp1 IIS 6, with SQL2005 Enterprise edition.
2. I created a new DB named DotNetNuke
3. I created a New user in SQL and gave them DB_Owner role.
4. Create a new directory C:\websites\website and extracted the zipped files.
5. I created a new virtual directory and pointed it to the C:\websites\website.
6. enables Scripts and executables.
7. I added "Network Service" user to the C:\websites\website directoy permissions.

I edited the Web.Config which is below, my edits I think are in red.

When going to http://localhost/dotnetnuke/install/install.aspx?mode=install,  i get

I would like to make a few suggestions on updating the documention as it seams that some of the documentation is not as clear.  If I can get this working, i would be willing to submit updated  instructions!

The instructions to edit this file is confusing as Many people have problems including myself.  I am a network engineer by profession and I am having issues.  The documentation should include the entire web.config file with the areas hightlighted that need to be edited and an explecite instructions about each seation.  I would even have separate web.config for SQL2000/2003 and for SQL Express since the settings are differnet.

I would also like better docs about settings for the following:
1. Configuring IIS and what componants need to be installed.
2. SQL 2005 as far as what features need to be installed and configured including services for SQL2005, client protocals and network configurations.  SQL2005 is much more secure on a standard install and it would be helpfull to know what  needs to running on it

See this -

     <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=dtsobel;pwd=*****;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=dtsobel;pwd=*****;"/>
    -->

You haven't removed the commented out elements - it should read like this -

     <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express     <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />-->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005  -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=dtsobel;pwd=*****;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>-->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=dtsobel;pwd=*****;"/>

Does that make sense - you see in the web.config file there are lines of commented code with instructions - they look pale grey in most html editors - so if it's pale grey - it is not going to be actioned..

You should be able to take what I did - copy back into the file - add your password and see how that goes.

I am not sure how you comment out stuff in this type of file.   I was able to open the file in dreamweaver.

I can't figure out where the changes are?  I guess  I'm not used to reading code.

OK - it's not as hard as you think -  anything that has a <!--  is the beginning of commented code and it ends with -->  so you can have little mini instructions and notes in it.

By default dnn is set to be configure to sql 2005 and sql express with the connection strings but it has underneath them commented code with the 2000 connection string - all you need to do is shuffle these around.

In fact to be honest, I remove them - I find them unnecessary on sites I am installing using sql 2000 so it's easy to work with.

If you can't work it out - i'll paste the exact code in here you need to get you started.
