How do you setup and create multiple portals if you can't (or don't want to) use domain names?

In this case we're replacing two existing and separate web sites with two portals on a new hosted DNN server.  We need to prepare the content before the dns changes are made.  We've done one site with the idea that adding and working on the second would be a snap.  It isn't or, at least, it isn't obvious.

Assume that I know how to add a new portal using the DNN control panel, so skip the basics.

How do I create two portals from the same IP if I can't use the domain names?

Thanks in advance!

Could you use different ports?

No, unfortunately.

Create 1st site as a parent site with alias = IP of server

Create 2nd site as a child site with alias = IP of server/sitename (e.g. 111.222.333.444/site2)

This might work:

Let's say that your current domain is www.example.com and points to 123.456.789.012, and you ultimately want it to go to 987.654.321.098

I would create a DNS 'A' record, dnn1.example.com, and point it to 987.654.321.098  and ask your host to point the domain at your dnn instance through IIS.  Develop away using dnn1.example.com, and when you want the service to show as www.example.com, add it as a portal alias and repoint the www.example.com 'A' record to 987.654.321.098.
