Tigris7,

To turn on registration, you login as admin, and go to Admin>Site Settings - Advanced Settings - Security Settings, and set the User Registration option.

Anyway, I hope that is what you were asking about.

BTW, I saw your other thread.  I understand you are frustrated, but showing it will get you less help than if you just explain your problem as explicitly as possible, and post the error message you are getting.

John,

I am running DNN 4.3.5.  I am wondering if I have missed a simple step somewhere along the way. Your instructions say to use the ImportUsers.aspx page from my DNN website. I think that is where I am failing. I have placed both ImportUsers.aspx and ImportUsers.aspx.vb into the portal directory, then I created a new page in my DNN site that opens ImportUsers.aspx directly, however, DNN it seems to treat that page as an external link.  Could that be the problem and if so, what method should I be using to run the page?

Thanks for all your help.

Ken

Hi John,

Thanks for your response and advice. I will take heed.

I had and have again performed the exact sequence of steps you suggested to no avail. I fill out the form but on submit I get

An error has occurred.
Error: Register is currently unavailable.

If I subsequently try to log in with how I just registered, I am able to, so essentially the registration is working but instead of redirecting to the home page or displaying a 'success' message, it displays the error message.

I used the starter kit to install DNN on my machine which runs XP Pro, have a SQL Server 2005 db, and am running it locally on my machine while testing. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could it have something to do with the smpt not yet being successfully configured? Does that part have to be working before the registration module will load/complete successfully?

Ok, I figured it out... I feel like a nimrod for not paying attentiomn to the warning written in red on the welcome page where it says to enter a valid email for the admin and host user acct.  Seems that part of registration is sendng email to the amin/host, and if there is no valid email for such, the process can't complete and thus, an error message appears. Aslo need to configure SMPT correctly.

Hi Ken,

If you place the page in your website root (the same place that default.aspx is) then you would just access it on the url directly (e.g. http://yoursite.com/ImportUsers.aspx).

You don't need to configure it to work within the portal itself.
