It's working finally...woo hoo!

I opened the website project from the install you pointed me to and
I changed the connection string in the web.config file from:

        <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=YODA\SQLEXPRESS;Database=dnn434;Trusted_Connection=True;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

to the default connection string that comes with a regular install.

    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

and compiled from VS2005 (though I'm not sure if that was even necessary...I'm net to .NET. Going to test that now.)

I notice that "My Website" is hosted at http://localhost:1178/WebSite/Default.aspx
and this is probably due to VS2005 using dynamic ports. Is it difficult to then publish the web site
on port 80, or where would I start looking in order to do that? (Sorry...I generally use Apache not IIS)

Thanks again for the help.
Brian

Hey Antonio,

It's version 2.0.50727

But, I have noticed that I always have to select the ASP.NET version in IIS manually.
I usually get an error when opening the project in VS2005 for the first time that the website
has not been configured for ASP.NET and would I like to configure it now.

When I say Yes it says that it could not configure it and it will have to be done manually.

You could be right. Could be something fishy going on with my ASP.NET install.
I'll try as you suggested and see if I can do a clean install then.

Cheers for the great help ;)
I'll crack this .NET stuff yet!
Brian.

Antonio,
Reinstalling ASP.NET worked a treat. It installed the ASPNET user which I was missing all along and that seemed to be
the root of the problem.

Thanks again for your help.
