i tried to have the favicon to work with IE 6 but no luck even had a look at major DNN sites and noticed the same thing,IE accepts favicons for sure, just have a look at google.com for example, feel it is some sort of script, I cud not figure out how it is done or any mention of favion.ico in the source code of the page althought if one types www.google.com /favicon.ico one will see google's icon in the browser (while favicon.ico is not metioned in the source!)

i am also aware from that the icon has to be 16x16 or else IE 6 will ignore it ..

I am keen to have the favicon work with IE 6 , any suggestions ?

I had real trouble getting favicon to work with DNN, sometimes when it was properly set up it just wouldnt sho and i think in the end it had something to do with browser and IIS caching. 16x16 is correct, but i was pleased to find that IE7 and FF render full XP RGB color. Which means you are not longer restricted to ugly or pixelated favicons. Also, would highly recommend Axialis Icon Workshop 6.0 (http://www.axialis.com/), i think they have a free trial version you can download.

It is an issue with IE 6. The favicon will not work consistently unless you add the URL to your favorites.

Along those lines, if you have it in your favorites, remove it.  Now clear cache and dump all your temp files.  Close browser and open the page again.  If it still does not show, what has worked for me is to actually click on the bad favicon and try to drag it somewhere.  Jiggle it around a bit.  It sometimes will change to the correct one like magic.
