I'm using the Urlcontrol to select a file from the portal. Is there a method for converting the "File=7" into the actual filepath/name? thanks.

pass it to the inkclick.aspx, as modules Download, Links and UDT do.

If I'm correct though, linkclick doesn't return the file name, it streams the file back to the browser. I need the actual path and filename.

Here's how I do it in my slide show module:

If urlImages.Url.StartsWith("FileID=") Then
   Dim _FileCont As New DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FileController
   Dim _FileInfo As DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FileInfo
   Dim _Id As Integer = CInt(Strings.Replace(urlImages.Url, "FileID=", ""))
   _FileInfo = _FileCont.GetFileById(_Id, Me.PortalId)
   FileName = DotNetNuke.Common.ResolveUrl(Me.PortalSettings.HomeDirectory & _FileInfo.Folder & _FileInfo.FileName)
End If

This should help you out.

Dim filepath as String
Dim _fileID as string = "FileID=23"
Dim myFile As String = _fileID.Substring(7)
Dim db As New DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FileController
Dim objFile As DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FileInfo = db.GetFileById(CInt(myFile), ps.PortalId)
filepath = objFile.Folder & objFile.FileName
