I've documented 3 useful enhancements with source code for the UDT module (based on 3.3.6 code):

1.  New datatype "Label" to help display the a list of fields during edit.  The "Label" datatype is added like any other field type and serves as a psuedo title/label to groups of fields during data entry.

2.  Add alternating row background row color to Edit User Defined Table.  This is nice when you have a long list of fields to edit.

3. Use the default Grid Table view to display a configurable list of fields/columns.  This makes it very easy to display UDT data without learning XSL.

Eck Two,

thank you for these great tutorial that demonstrate, how easy it is to enhance UDT.

Plase let me add a few suggestions for users w/o programming abilities:

  1. another option to add an instruction is to add a calculated column that contains a static text as Extended Setting / Expression.
  2. Your enhancement provides alternating background color for the edit form. Standard UDT already supports alternating row colors for the data view page (grid rendering), for style definitions please refer to the user manual.
  3. Another option is to mark the hidden columns as "invisible" and check "show all columns" for those roles, that shall get them presented.
