I have a demo environment that a client is using to build their site built in DNN4.

I'm using SQL Express 2005 and the app is hosted at WebHost4Life.  Nearly everytime I access the application, I receive a "Can't Connect to the Database" or a "Assembly Version doesn't match Database Version" type installation message.  After I touch the web.config file, the problem seems to resolve itself.  There are some custom DNN modules that I created for this installation.

This seemingly indicates that there is a part of the application that is not closing the database connection.  Is this a common problem? Something that happens with WebHost4Life? I'm closing down all my connections in my custom code.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Anil Kakar

Anil,

Were you successful with connecting to the database?

I too am trying to connect to SQL Express 2005 with DNN 4.5.3 and am unsuccessful:

<

add   name="SiteSqlServer"

Server=sql386.mysite4now.com;Database=Pxxx;uid=xxx;pwd=xxx;

connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;"

providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> I can connect to the Pxxx database with SQL Server Management Studio Express, and created the DNN database with my user/password.

I have a similar add key string

<add key="SiteSQLServer" value="Server=sql386.mysite4now.com;Database=Pxx;UID=xxx;pwd=xxx;" />

I've set permissions to the whole directory to "net service"

Thanks!

Craig

Visual Web Developer Express can cause SQL Server Express to lock.

If you click on the Database Explorer tab...
It will allow you to manage your SQL Server Express database...
But then you get this error when you try to view the site in your web browser:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.03.04

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

The problem is Visual Web Developer Express has locked the database.
Right-click on the database and select Close Connection

Thanks. Interesting...

I blew away the installation and used the ISP provided wizard to create another DNN instance, which is working fine.

Craig.
