I don't know of a way to get individual images to work with the Solpart Menu for mouseovers. You can use a different image for the mouseover state, but it'll be the same for all of the same level items (root/sub). If you need different images you may need to look at using a different menu, or writing your own menu provider.

I was able to use a specific image in the www.stlouischildrens.org skin (see the Health Info) link in the Navigation, but it's actually just an IMG tag passed in the page name, and then the background color for the image is changed by the CSS in solpart. Probably not what you're looking to try to do.

You cannot get individual images to work in solpart menu - it's dynamic and pulls page names from the database - the text is not an image.. so individual images will not happen with solpart.

What can do is use individual coloured background images for the active menu, active sub meu, active root menu, active breadcrumb menu tabs.  And generate a look that way.

This is an example of how the menu can be used in it's different state - here I just used background colours in the CSS file, however, there is a skinning document with all the references that help you do the background images in your css - http://www.ninasfreeskins.com/designaway/vertical-menu.aspx that is a free skin that has the 'active menu' classes which are a combination of code in the ascx skin (advanced skinning) and, the css references.
