Lots of enhancement excites me for 4.4.0 Will unzipping upgrade version on existing application be enough? Or I have to install completely a new version to get the best results?

thanks

The answer will depend on the version of DNN that you are using, I think.

For me, upgrading from 4.3.5 was simply a matter of unzipping the "upgrade" file on top of my exisiting installation.  (You should back up your directory AND your database before doing anything, of course.)

If you are upgrading from a 4.x.x version, then you might want to try unzipping the "install" zip file on top of your existing installation.  If you do this, you'll want to make sure  to save a copy of web.config, as it will be overwritten.  Then, you'll need to copy any customizations, machine key, etc. from your old web.config to the new one.

With some attention to detail, and with special attention to your web.config file, this probably will work just fine.  IF it doesn't, you have your backups to restore the site and try again.

If you're upgrading from 3.x.x, I'm under the impression that you've got a much more difficult task ahead of you.

there are new entries in the DNN 4.4.0 web.config, therefor generally use the release.config as template for your web.config and copy over both connections strings, encryption keys as well as database owner and object Qualifier in sqlconnection section far down - and, of course, all custom modifications.

I recommend to use the install.zip, which includes all updated modules. Note, that you need to backup your web.config first (and should always make a backup of the installation folder and database) prior to unzipping.
