Hi again,

This one's about the hierarchy of contributors and categories.

From reading through all the forum posts I see that many people are, like myself, using the blog module as their primary news manager rather than a diary. Most weblogs end up being used that way in any case.

This usually means that the site has one top-level category, which is the news itself, broken up into several news categories e.g. Industry News and Site Updates.

Now... the scenario I would most like to achieve is as follows:

I have a Journalist user role.

Using and account with that role, I create a fresh blog, call it News and add my subcategories as child blogs.

Now I can start posting stories to the site using the account with the Journalist role.

However, if I log in with another account that also has the Journalist role, I am unable to add news stories to the main news blog already created.

The only thing I can do is create another new blog from scratch.

So the question is: How can I set the thing up so that multiple users can contribute to the same news and news categories?

What happens if I simply recreate a blog and child blogs with the exact same names as the first one... not ideal, but perhaps that would work?

Any comments on this are appreciated.

Rob

Rob,

I understand your problem, if you try to use the blog module as a news module. But the blog module is not a news or an article module.

Best you can compare the blog module with a diary, and a diary is a very personal thing, or would you like that everyone else write into your diary?

But I understand all the people who wish to use the blog module for a  lot of different things.

I have named this feature "group blogs", and I have done already a lot of thoughts how it is possible to implement this feature. And above all how it is possible to implement this feature without losing any of the currently implemented benefits.

You can be sure, that I will do my best to add any possible feature request, but please understand, that it is not possible, that all the feature will be available in the next release.

regards

HP

Yes, I've thought about it some more and I've realised that the point of distinction between this module and most other categorising-content-submission-tools is that this one effectively inserts the User as the second tier category.. so we have Blogs at the top, User next, and then the User's blog with child blogs. I can see now that it is not a simple task to shift the User from this tier in the heirarchy.

Perhaps it might be simpler to allow some sort of cross-posting amongst users... perhaps if a user were able to add another users' child blogs to their list. I don't know how you've got it all organised behind the scenes of course so I'll leave it at that for your future consideration.

Thanks for the comments,
Rob

I am interested in this feature as well.  Like the other poster, I'd like to make this a news distribution... I'd like my admins to be able to publish to on blog and my other sub-admins to be able to post to another.

I'd also like to be able to have the "Listing" module default to a particular blog.

So I have a site information page that shows updates to the whole site, where the a sub section, has its own listing and entry for that section.

with multiple users being able to blog to each level...
