Ok, I did a fresh install of 4.4.0. Went perfect on the fist web hit. Well, I was playing and I set the login and registration to require Captcha. Well, now I can't login because there is no image. It won't display the captcha image at all. I just get the little red x. So, 2 questions:

Is there a way to fix the Captcha?
Is there a way to go to the table in the DB and just change an entry to disable captcha?

I did the same install & had the same problem, plus some of my custom pictures and documents were not available to non-administrator users - something about not having privileges to view them.  When I changed the permissions for File Manager back to "All Users" (it is admin only by default under DNN 4.4.0) that seems to have also fixed the CAPTCHA image not displaying.

As for being locked out of your host and admin accounts, here's the setting in the database you'll need to change:
Find the "dnn_ModuleSettings" table, then set "Security_CaptchaLogin" to "False" and "Security_CaptchaRegister" to "False" as well.  You might have to restart IIS.

Uncomment the compression module in the web.config and try again. This could well be caused by compression.

Actually it turns out it's a bug in 4.4.0 someone else started a thread on the same thing after mine. the work around they give and the warning of just in case you get locked out like I did is to go to the table modulesettings and then look for the Captcha lines and change them to false. I did that and bang I'm back in my portal.
