OK, I tried calling Go Daddy and they said, "they didn't know", Dot Net Nuke is a free app, you have to go to their site to get support, etc. I read the forums and people warned me against Go Daddy, but I used them successfully for other things so I didn't listen... so here I am.

1. I first installed DotNetNuke and it didn't come with the forum or discussion board module. (When asked about what comes standard in the GoDaddy installation, the answer was "I don't know." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling because I had seen other people on here successfully (or seem to successfully) get forums.)

I get the following error message (but everything else is successful):

00:00:11.296 - Upgrading to Version: 3.2.3 Error! (seed:\hosting\name\jphome\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\03.02.03.log for more information)

I also get the following modules on install:

00:00:16.421 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\kproutyhost\jphome\Install\Module\Announcements_03.03.04_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:17.281 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Blog_3.02.00_Install.zip:  Success

00:00:20.062 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Documents_03.01.05_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:20.718 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\FAQs_3.1_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:20.999 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Feedback_03.02.01_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:21.281 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Help_2.0.4_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:21.999 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\HTML_3.3.0_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:22.437 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\IFrame_3.2_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:22.859 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Links_3.3_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:23.234 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Media_03.02.02_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:23.546 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\NewsFeeds_3.1.1_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:23.671 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\Survey_3.3_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:24.765 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\UserDefinedTable_3.03.03_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:25.968 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\UsersOnline_3.1_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:26.140 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\WhatsNew_3.3_Install.zip:  Success
00:00:26.218 -   Installing Module File d:\hosting\name\jphome\Install\Module\XML_3.1_Install.zip:  Success

I get the successfully installed message, and I can get into the site.

So... nowhere are discussions or forums an option. When I go into the most--> module definition area, it doesn't seem like they are an option there either.

I would just ftp the modules up, but the site rev here is 4.37 and the one on GoDaddy is 4.35... and I don't even know if you can do that when it is a core app...

any suggestions?

Best,

Katherine

Well, either 4.35 used the discussion module from 3.02, which gave me the error message on install, or the regular GoDaddy installation doesn't come with forums, because they aren't in the GoDaddy 4.35 zip file. I compared that zip file with the 4.37 zip file that is on this site... and that is only one of the differences. I have screen shots of the zip differences... so, unless something funky is going on that I don't understand (which is entirely possible), Go Daddy free install doesn't include everything:

Here is the GoDaddy zip modules in their 4.35

Oh, well, looks like I can't send the image to the server, but here are some of the missing modules:

Events, Forum, Gallery, Reports, Respository, Store, User Defined Table

I don't think I can go back to 3.02 to see if all of these modules were originally in there or not... does anyone know? Or is Go Daddy setting everyone up with an emasculated version now?

Best,

Kat

Thanks for the info, Kat. I am in the process of setting up a new website at GoDaddy for a loose "association" (non-profit) and because most of my background in web stuff is in FrontPage, I set up a Windows-hosted account for them. Then, when I started looking around a Forum and Blog capabilities, I found that ONLY DotNetNuke is available as a standard install at GoDaddy.com.

I did the first install of 4.3.5 a couple of days ago and wasn't able to find the "Forums" module -- which is sort of missing the whole point, isn't it? In talking with a series of Support Analysts at GoDaddy, I found that [a] (paraphrasing) "the packages here really aren't supported -- you need to read your own documentation and configure things without our help", and [b] on doing an uninstall and re-install (yesterday) the "Forums" modules(among others that you mentioned -- Events, Forum, Gallery, Reports, Respository, Store) is conspicious by its absence. (Oddly, I do find "User Defined Table".)

In submitting an "incident report" to GoDaddy, I have copied the text of your two earlier posts in this thread for their information and hope that they can come back to me in the next day or so with a "fresh install". I strongly suspect that whoever put their customized install package together omitted a few components (mistakenly, one hopes) and that this can be corrected in a timely fashion. For a while, I was distraught that there were all these glowing "testimonials" on the info page as I was trying to reconcile those statements with missing the "Forum" module. In hindsight, it would appear that an upgrade has occurred sometime before you or I tried installing and there were one or more omissions.

Let's hope they figure it out. DotNetNuke looks like a superb package!

FYI I had setup a DNN at goDaddy using thier standard install.  I need to use Events so I just downloaded the stand alone project from here and installed it as a module and it worked fine.   I don't think I will not be staying with GoDaddy because of other problems.

Hi, lh - -

I got an email reply from GoDaddy support today. It says:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Our system administrators have examined the hosting ?[site-name]?.net and completed the installation of the DotNetNuke forums module as a courtesy. Our current package does not support the module for forums, but you can add additional modules using the following instructions:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/DotNetNukeProjects/ModuleForums/Downloads/tabid/823/Default.aspx

Click on 'Forum 3.20.01 GettingStarted' for the relevant documentation. Essentially you will need to download the module from the DNN site and (as super user) choose 'add module'. Please reply directly to this message if we can be of further assistance.

So I went to my SuperUser login there and sure enough I can now establish a Forum from the module (which is now present in the list). WHY in the world they would choose to NOT support (nor offer) the Forum module when that is a primary value of DNN to a Windows-hosted account still confuses me.

I'm also not sure what you mean by "I don't think I will not be staying with GoDaddy because of other problems." (Double negatives confuse me and it sounds like you WILL be staying?) I'm also not sure how you could download another module (you mention "Events") and install it yourself as it would seem to me that on a share hosting account only THEY can do install things on your virtual server -- or am I more confused than I think I am?
