When I attempt to run it, I get the following error message:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.04.00

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

So what's wrong, and what do I do about it, please.

Well it definitely has something to do with your connection string in web.config.
Are you pointing to the right database?  Right user and pwd?  Did you use the sqlserver2000/2005 or sqlexpress connection string?

I guess I was naive enough to think that the installation of the project was enough to relatively reference the SQL Server Express database.  i.e.: that all I had to do was compile and run.

So, is that wrong?

Yes, you'll need to look in web.config and set up your own connection strings.

There are two strings, current and legacy, for each type of database, SQL2000 and SQL2005. One type is commented out. Uncomment the correct type and then alter the two strings with your db ip and security info.

What exactly goes in depends on your unique situation of course, so you might have to post a thread with more details.
