1) when next version is ready

2) copy the missing .dll files from bin folder of DNN 4.4.0 package

Thank you!

The fix.

1. Download a copy of 4.4.1 source.zip

2. Extract it into a New temp folder on your drive (NOT A production or existing dotnetnuke installation folder)

3. Locate the website /bin folder

4. Locate and Copy/Paste the file:   DotNetNuke.DNNTreeNavigationProvider.dll   into your Production sites /bin.  (Or whatever dotnetnuke installation your trying to fix)

5. Navigate to your production web site via the browser. It will take a minute to load the first time you hit your site after this copy/paste of the newly added DotNetNuke.DNNTreeNavigationProvider.dll  file.

6. Login and set a page on your site to use the Fixed/vertical menu skin.  It should work fine. If it works, then feel free to set you entire website skin to this Fixed/vertical menu skin.  Setting a single page to a new skin for testing is safer (so I have learned from investigating this fix)

Thanks again.

Thanks for this tread. It resolved my problem but it brings up another question.

Also found in the bin directory of one of those "other" versions, is a DotNetNuke.DNNTreeNavigationProvider XML file.

What is the XML file used for?

Should it be copied too?

My last question: anyone providing the answer part of this thead always seem to use plural when describing missing .dlls.  So...

What other dll, xml, or other files were omitted that should have been included?

Thanks to all who contriubute problems -and- resolutions. I saw this tread when it was first posted. While I didn't have an answer, I could see someone else was deailing with the same problem. So, I have it a few days, checked back, and Volia resolution.

Q.  How to get your portal back if you don't have a copy of the above files:

A.  If you do set your portal skin to vertical, before you apply this fix; you may not be able to login to your site because of the error messages. One easy fix is to, using SQL Server Management Tool (or some other sql tool), open the SKINS table and remove the entries in the table that pertain to the site you are locked out of. Give the cache time to clear and return to your site. Removing these entries will reset your site back to default skins.

All 4 Now! DotNetNuke Rocks!

Hi Jack sorry you were a victim like so many others - not everyone has access to the SQL table, specially those who are hosted and I'm glad you were able to fix this. I also blogged about this - http://blogs.ninameiers.com/2007/01/30/Broken+DNN+Site+Using+Vertical+Menu.aspx .

I'm only disappointed that it wasn't quickly patched an re released - they did that last year when a complete pacakge was accidently released with old dll's and it was a real nightmare.. but only a few hundred downloads occured instead of thousands like we're experiencing now.

Yes DNN is a great product and glad you're enjoying the benefits that so many others are.
