Recently trying to install DNN on my web server which is running SQL. I believe I configured web.config file fine, but when I try to go to the my domain I get this message:

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

any ideas?? Im sorry but I am new to DNN...

make sure, the DNN installation directory is set up as web site or virtual directory in IIS.

Thanks.

This is actually on a web host, (godaddy) so I dont know how I would go about doing that.

in addition to leupold's recommendations let's add the checking of ASP .NET settings; they must be set to the correct version e.g. 1.1 for 3.x and 2.0 for 4.x. and make sure default.aspx is there for default documents.

Im using GoDaddy and have followed instructions provided on these forums but am still getting the machine key error as above. Everything seems to be configured like Ive read. Ive done both: Created VDirectories w/ the proper permissions and uploaded the DNN w/ my configured web.config file. Ive also just created a folder on my root called Test and uploaded DNN w/ my configured web.config file. Same results...any other ideas?
