Version 4.4.1 is one of the most stable DNN versions - with a very good performance and ~80 previous issues corrected. Unfortunately during optimization some additional providers have been removed, that might be used by 3rd party skins and modules, though it always is an aim of the core team not to intoduce breaking changes. if the issue remains, you need to contact the vendor of the 3rd party module.

Thank you for your response.  I failed to state in my last email that this problem occurs with multiple 4.x.x versions, so it is not unique with 4.4.1.  I also have had a different problem with the same email software with version 3.3.7, so I am not sure it is a DNN problem.  I have notified the vendor, however, I may have to look for an alternative email solution, as I'd like to be current with all my clients; and 4.4.1 is feature-rich.  Again, thank you and best of luck with your contributions as a Core Team member.
