Hi there,

I currently have a site at GoDaddy using 1.1 .net and 3.3.6 DNN. My sense is that the 3x architecture will no longer be upgrade and so it might be time to make the shift. So I am wondering about what I need to do. When I change from 1.1 to 2.0 .Net will this affect my site? Will I lose my site and have to rebuild? Any and all help would be most appreciated prior to making this transition.

Hello,

There is a transition path from 3.x to 4.x and included in the DNN documenation is a guide on how to upgrade from one to another.  As long as you follow the procedures listed in the documentation you should be able to continue using your site just as you have currently, including all user accounts.

Just be sure to back EVERYTHING up before you start!

Thanks for this - I remain uncertain, however, about what will happen going from 1.1 to 2.0 .Net - will this affect my data?

No as long as you follow the upgrade instructions nothing will occur to your data. it is simply switching the .NET version the application is using.  All of your data will stick around!

Thanks again ... I guess now all I have to do is find the time, pray a bit, and dive in :)
