I use M6.Net to host my web sites. The way that they work is that I get a root directory and all of my virtual directories are located underneath it. Each virtual diectory is its own URL. I want to install one instance of DNN and have it used by multiple URLs is this possible? Is so, where would I install it? The directory structure that I have is similiar to the following assuming that I have three web sites (madeupsite.com, nextsite.com, firstsite.com). These are the virtual directories. i can create any folder that I want underneath my root folder.

myhostingrootdirectrory\firstsite.com\firstsite.com

myhostingrootdirectrory\nextsite.com\nextsite.com

myhostingrootdirectrory\madeupsite.com\madeupsite.com

THANKS!

Hello,

I am also using m6.net, they are actually very good with using DotNetNuke....

Here is what you need to do.

Setup one "Primary" website for your DNN portal and install it in one of your website folders.  Then each additional domain that you want to go to DNN you will setup on the M6.net system as a "pointer" to the existing DNN install.  (As a side note, I typically request this as a support request via copanel rather than trying to do it myself....)

Thanks for the fast response. 2 questions.

1) When the users browse to one of the "pointer" domains, what do the URLs look like? They do not display the base (first) domain url, do they?

2) With 4.5 coming out real soon, should I wait the few days or install 4.4.1?

Thanks!

The URL will show for the pointer domain, just like you would like.

Have a look at the following.

http://www.mitchelsellers.com

http://www.freedotnetnukestuff.com

http://portal.iowacomputergurus.com

All three of those domains point to portal.iowacomputergurus.com on M6.net's servers!

I would say go ahead and install 4.4.1, you can upgrade later if needed and I have had very good luck with the upgrade process!

That is just what I want! Thanks!

Just to make sure that I am understanding what you've done, www.iowacomputergurus.com is a domain and virtual directory and portal.iowacomputergurus.com is a subdomain. Is that correct? Was there a reason that you set up the base DNN install in a subdomain? Using my 3 site example from before, should I install dnn in myhostingrootdirectrory\firstsite.com\firstsite.com and point nextsite and madeupsite at it or should I install it in myhostingrootdirectrory\firstsite.com\firstsite.com\PORTAL and point all three sites at that?

Knowing how difficult it is to change things once the install is done (at least with most products that i have worked with), I want to TRY to set it up as correct and effecient as possible.

With one install, they all share one database, the same host, and the same set of installed modules... correct? Just making sure before I start installing. I would like to get the first site up this week and hopefully one of the repointed sites as well.

Thanks again for all fo your help!
