Hello all.
I am doing a new vanilla install of DNN 4.0 onto my hosting service.  The install runs fine, but when I attempt to access the portal, I get the error below.
I have already cleaned everything out and re-installed twice.

Sure could use some help on this one.

I think I encountered this problem when I first tried a new install of 4.0.2. Take note that the SQL connection string for SQL 2000/2005 is commented out by default. It is very easy to just populate the variables and think you are done. Take note the last line in the connection strings section is -->.  It is also commented out in the appSettings section.

I am also getting this same error.  Do note that it has nothing to do with the SQL Server connection string.  Mine is, for sure, configured correctly, as DNN installed all the tables and what not just fine.  Not only am I getting this same error, but I'm getting it in the same place (same exact stack trace).  Very strange, and I can't figure it out

Ok - check the Portals table to see if a Portal record was created on install.

If there is no record, then there was an error with creating the portal (probably due to NTFS permissions on the Portals folder), the NETWORK_SERVICE (Wind 2k3) or ASPNET (Win XP) accounts need Write permissions.

Hi Charles,

Yes, I checked the Portals table immediately after seeing the strack trace and I do have my default portal (ID of 0, name of My Website) in the table.  So I still have no idea what's going on

Thanks for your response.

Jarred
