I thought about this and I am completely in two minds about this. I figured that there might be some situations where you would want to be able to edit without the control panel showing (I can't think of any personally, but somebody might have a reason).

But then again isn't that what page/module permissions are for? Only thing is that if you withdrawl the editable page permission and just make the modules individually editable, you can't edit the module title (I've already logged this as an enhancement). Also when you do this you have to edit every single module and give permissions which is a complete pain (I haven't logged this as an enhancement yet). Sure  you could use a container without a skin but this does not promote a consistent look and feel, which after all is what containers are all about. Also some content contributers might not have the skills to apply a consistent look and feel.

Thoughts?

It's generally bad UI design to have two different controls perform the same function.  Especially if they are allowed to be out of sync.

I have some thoughts on the Container and Action Menu UI here if you are interested.

BTW, did you know that the forums send out an e-mail to everyone who is notified everytime you edit a post?

Spot on with the container stuff. Why don't you log this into gemini as an enhancement, in terms that a programmer can understand? It might get withdrawn as a duplicate once it hits the core team, or because it maybe on the roadmap, but 80% of the points I see here don't look as though they've been logged.
