I am trying to install DNN 4.5 Source on the machine I use for development. I did the following:

1.) Extracted zip files to C:\DotNetNuke4.5

2.) Created virtual directory in IIS 5.1 and pointed to C:\DotNetNuke4.5

3.) Made sure IIS is using .NET 2.0,

4.) Set permissions for ASPNET User Account under Security tab for DotNetNuke4.5 folder

5.) Created database called DotNetNuke in SQL Server 2005 (not Express version).

6. Created Login/user dnn for DotNetNuke database and set password.

7. Changed file release.config to web.config and set connection string to use uid=dnn and its password. ("source=(local); Database=DotNetNuke;uid=dnn;pwd=thepassword"

When I pointed my browser at http://localhost/DotNetNuke4.5 the install program created a database called DotNetNuke_2 and displayed a message about not having permission to view the page.

How do I do a clean install of DNN 4.5 with source code?  I don't want to use a wizard or kit because I want the source code.

I really appreciate your help.

I didn't have that issue. What method did you select on the install wizard?

You didn't have that issue.

So tell me the steps you went through to install.  Did you install the Source version?

Thanks.

Did the SQL Server Express 2005 connection strings (which are active by default) in web.config get commented out and your SWL Server 2000/2005 connection strings get un-commented out?

Did you give the user "dnn" db_owner permissions in the database?

Is SQlExpress set up for mixed mode authentication (both Windows and Sql Authentication)?

I've had some problems using "Server=(local) . . . " in the connection string and have had to use "Server=.\SqlExpress . . ." instead. Note, I have only one instance of SqlExpress and use the default name of this instance.

Yes, I'm running default SQL Server Express 2005 install not .\SQLExpress so as to replicate a Standard SQL install.

Yes, I gave dbo perms.

Yes, mixed mode.

No problems with the "Server=(local)..."

here we go... if you did an install to the "Default" instance and not .\SQLExpress you should be using either (local) or localhost or computername or ip address. this may cause you some issues, but since you said it created another db, that may not be it.

question for you: did you run the .sln file first? that is setup by default to use http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2 and if you didn't change it first then it may have caused some issues as well, since you installed to a different directory.
