Hi

I'm trying to figure out how this all hangs together - I have installed DNN ok - say www.abc.com. If I want to build a new site (say, www.xyz.com) and manage its content, and give an administrator access to manage it (so that I don't need to) . . .

Do I create a new portal - or a new site (using the Site Wizard) ?

Do users access it by keying in www.xyz.com or www.abc.com

Do administrators manage it via  www.xyz.com or www.abc.com

Which of the PDF manuals can explain this to me ? There is something fundamental that I am missing . . .

many thanks in advance

Tony M

If you download the DotNetNuke documents there is a PDF file called DotNetNuke Installation Guide.doc.  It will get you started.

In a nutshell - there are basically a HOST account that manages the DNN site you're working with.

The DNN site can contain one or many "Portals".

Each Portal can have it's own web address.

So in your case you would create two portals, one for www.abc.com and one for www.xyz.com.

Although each portal is served by one DNN installation - they will appear to visitors as seperate web sites.

You can then assign administrator roles to each site and the will be independent of each other.

Hope this helps.

Dave

You are a legend - many thanks.

I have downloaded all the docco and I found the Installation Guide excellent and very easy to follow - I couldn't believe how easy it was to install. Since then I have struggled to find any docco that can take me to the next step - particularly how the installation links to the portal to the website - your email is a godsend. Again, many thanks !!

In another post I have requested help on a "page cannot be displayed" error that I am getting when I set up a new portal - I suspect that this is because I have not created the website within Internet Services Manager - can you confirm that I need to do this before adding a new portal ??

Cheers

tm
