Hi,

I messed up my installation and was getting an error, then did an application restart by changing the web.config. The site came up but for some reason the password for admin and host accounts are not working. I cannot login to the site anymore.

I tried the default passwords and tried the ones that I had changed to but none of them seems to let me login.

Is there a way to reset the password using the database tables ? I really need help here and I don't want to re-intall the DNN as I am using the nightmare host 1and1.

Here's my suggestion (I just tested it locally and it worked fine for me):

  1. register a new account under your portal
  2. edit the table "dnn_users" directly
  3. change the new user account column "IsSuperUser" to "True" or "1" depending on the SQL Manager
  4. restart the application. the easiest way to do this remotely is simply rename the web.config to something else and then rename it back.
  5. login with the new user account and you will now have host permissions. you can now set/reset your original account passwords.
