I have just upgraded DNN 4.3 to 4.51.  Now I find I can not edit modules in either admin or host modes.  Update and cancel do nothing except return you to the edit page.  Afterwards I also found for some pages the there is no edit link to click on to change module settings or content.

Probably a bad upgrade but is there any way to fix this short of re-doing the entire upgrade all over again?

first, check the control panel, that you are in edit and not i view mode.

second, check the upgrade log for any issues.

Hi Leupold:

Thanks for your reply.

When I click on cancel or update when editing the contents of a module, the site has a tendency to return to the edit module contemts page (i.e. it doesn't exit and return to the page) and also the things are shifted from edit to view mode in the control panel.  But the changes do not stick.

I did the upgrade by first downloading my site to my local computer, unzipping the upgrade over top of this, and then uploading the result.  As I have had problems when uploading overtop the existing wwwroot folder, I first deleted the old wwwroot so iwas uploading onto a clean slate.  I know the downloaded site works because I have had to re-load it a couple of times for other reasons and the re-install works.

I don't know where the upgrade log is.  In admin mode when I go to site log, I am told my hosting provider has disabled this feature.

I would appreciate any futher help

Hi,

Sorry, not all of your descriptions are clear to me: what do you mean, that the portal stays in edit mode after update/cancel? does it mean, that still the edit form of the module with all edit text boxes etc. are displayed or does the page get applied the edit (or "admin") skin and container, that might consist of a single content pane?

Top check the upgrade log, you can either use the display option at the bottom of portal settings module or you need access to the web site (e.g. using ftp) ad get the .log files from /providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovoder directory.

Please do not mix up Site Log and Event Log: Site Log stores the visit details for your site while event log stores any issues and security relevant items.

Hi Sebastian:

Thanks for getting back so promptly.

Let me start with the last item first.  There is an Upgrade SQLDataProvider file but no Upgrade Log file.

Sorry my description is so unclear..  Suppose I want to edit a module's content on a page.  For instance an HTML module's content.  I can go into admin or host mode.  I make sure the we are in edit not view mode in the top consel.  I make my changes and click on update.  I would expect that the changes would be made and the page would return to display the changed module/page.    What happens is that the mode on the top consel  changes from edit to view; the page is displayed still in edit form - that is with all the edit boxes - but no changes are made.  To display the page as it would normally appear in viewing mode I must go to the Menu and click on that page again.

Ron
