I've been bangin' away at getting this stupid install working and have come up against the following error:

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

Any ideas?  I found some information that said I should delete the SQLExpress directory from Documents and Settings, but I'm unsure as to whether I'm supposed to delete the file from the web server (I assume this is the case) or from my PC.  Also, I'm not sure which user's Documents and Settings directory I'm supposed to delete from.  The only instance of the file I found was under the Administrator directory.

Any help anyone can give on this would be greatly appreciated.  I've been bangin' on this for two days and really need to get this site up and going.

Thanks,

Jordy Stradtman

The problem with SQL Express is that it only allows connections by one user at a time, and If the donnection is open in VS2005 or Visual Web Developer (VWD) then you can only access the Database through that user.

The second problem is that DNN uses the ASPNET System account not the Windows logged in user.

So, the best solution is to go into VS2005/VWD, and go the Server Explorer and delete any connection to the Database.

This should then work.
