Hi,

I am new to DNN and would like to install it on my website.  I have used this host for many years on another site and would prefer to remain with them.

Amongst other things, these are some of the features I will have access to (I'm signing up with the pro account):

Operating System Linux or Windows
FTP Accounts 1
Load Balancing included
Daily Backups included
PHP, CGI, Perl With Linux
ASP, SHTML, ASP.NET With Windows
MySQL Database With Linux
Microsoft Access With Windows
MS SQL With Windows

Is this enough to install and run DNN?

Some documents relating to installation of DNN are mentioning the need for IIS 6 or 7.  Is this required?  If this is not enough what are my host's requirements to run DNN?

Many thanks,

Dunky

On a windowsOS it's quite easy: take Windows XP or W2K3 R2 (If you like some twinges then try Vista) then MSSQL Server 2005 Express Ed., ASP.NET 2.0+ and DNN 4.x for personal use. If you plan a big installation then take MSSQL 2005 Standard and W2K3 R2.
IIS is for the last question quite independent (IIS5 .. 7 it's compatible with DNN)

If heard that DNN can be installed on a linux machine (-> see Mono) but I've never installed / used.

Thanks jascht,

Just to clarify is IIS required or not?

I emailed my host asking if they would install DNN for me or atleast whether their servers would accept DNN, here is the reply:

"Your current hosting package does not support a full ASP.NET feature. You would need to upgrade to our Pro Website Hosting (NT platform) which includes MSSQL db. "

This is not a problem, just a bit more money - so now as aforementioned I have access to ASP.NET and MSSQL 2005 (I think its 2005!).  Next...

"Is there a way you can provide us with the requirement to run this software and a component tester so we can test the compatibility before finalize the answer for you?"

I have no idea?  Does DNN have some kind of component tester?  And what are the actual requirements?  Is that just the ASP.NET, MSSQL, and (maybe) IIS ??

Many thanks,

DNN needs IIS to run

Actually, its kind of strange that they never heard of DNN before.. maybe you should suggest to them to attend an MS hosting event near them, so they can learn about all new cool applications that run in windows servers.

From the sound of this.. your hosting company is not particulary proficient in windows hosting.. you might consider finding another hosting company

Actually for cracks not necessarily - install XSP and Mono - but how ever for me it's only a "academically" question.
