Hi all,

I have seen this error reported many times around the web and I have tried absolutely everything over and over but still to no avail!
I have tried the install about 7 or 8 times now and each time when I get to the databse connectivity test I get the following error:

"Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: 2
Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
"

I am installing DNN 4.05.03. On Windows XP Pro. Using IIS 5.1. Using SQL Server 2005 Express. .NET 2.0 is installed. As is ASP.NET

I have followed the instructions at http://www.dnncreative.com/tabid/289/Default.aspx?PageContentID=122 word for word and I cant get any further than the above error.

Any help you can give would be really appreciated as it is begining to drive me mad!

Thanks
Chris

I had thought Named Pipes were used only for SQL Server (not SQL Server Express), but that is just an impression. Also your error message mentions SQL Server - not Express again - but it could say the same thing for both I guess.

You've compared your web.config (and especially BOTH conneciton strings (one for DNN & modern modules) and the other for older modules) with release.config in the home directory?

Don't know what else to suggest.

Fixed it!

Two problems it seems. I wasnt putting /sqlexpress at the end of my server name in the connection string.
AND the server by default is only set up to accept Windows authentication. Changed this to mixed mode and everything is good.

Finally, I can start playing properly now!

Cheers for the help...
