Hi

I have just got an install of DNN4 working locally (XP Pro, IIS5, Sql Server 2000), but when I open the site, the standard controls are all broken ("An error has occurred..."). When I look in the log, I get the following exception for all of them:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: connectionString ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: connectionString at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, String spName, Object[] parameterValues) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Links.SqlDataProvider.GetLinks(Int32 ModuleId) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Links.LinkController.GetLinks(Int32 ModuleId) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Links.Links.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

What is strange is that DNN is talking to the database, otherwise the site wouldn't come up at all.

I have triple checked the web.config file has both connection strings set. Do the controls use a different connection string, or from a different config file? Please help

Thanks

Alec

I have also just installed on SQL 2000 and all seems to work except I get the same error that you have.

Value cannot be null. Parameter name: connectionString

Any ideas would help.

Cheers

David

I feel like a goose, but the fix for me was obvious. I had missed a comment marker (<!--) in the web confirg, AppSettings section. Make sure the SiteSqlServer entry isn't covered by a comment.
