Hi all,

First of all I am extremely new to DNN.

Secondly, when I upgraded our DNN installation I was going from 4.3 to 4.5.3 and following this guide: http://www.mitchelsellers.com/Blogs/tabid/54/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/76/Upgrading-to-DotNetNuke-451-from-4x.aspx

What happened was I backed up my 4.3, I unzipped 4.5 to the proper location, I ran the install, had a few issues which were resolved (these consisted of the install not picking up the correct database/login credentials and a few other similar issues). After resolving the issues the installation screen came up and the bar was running. It ran for about 2 hours, then I lost connection with it. When I go back to the installation link it says "DotNetNuke Installation Wizard - Version 04.05.03     DotNetNuke is already Installed on this system."    When I go to a site that is located on this DNN, I get a 404 error page cannot be found.

Another thing that might help is that when I ran the install on auto (it didn't work due to the aforementioned database issues) it would say database install failed but the engine (or whichever word it used) was upgraded. I think that may be the cause of the problem...

I have no idea what I need to do to fix this. Can somebody please help?

Thanks!
Tony Rad

Did you follow this warning "very important that you perform a FULL site and database backup prior to starting your upgrade"? if so, I'd try restoring your backups and starting the upgrade over.

Tony,

I would recommend following Chris' recommendation and trying the upgrade again.  Now that you know the values 100% for sure that you need to update in the web.config you should be able to do a seamless upgrade.

Yes, I definately did backup everything. At the time of the post I was rolled back completely. I tried the update again but still no luck. When DNN was initially installed it apparently wasn't planned out the best and we need to make some changes to it anyway, so I will am going to do a fresh install of the new version and copy my sites over.

The way I've found to do that seems to be by exporting the portals (with content) to template files, then placing those in the proper directory on the new install. And copying over the database. Does that sound about right?

Thanks!
