Hi,

I'm new to all this so please bear with me.  I recently installed the latest release of DNN and followed the instructions in the readme.  After installation I tried to login as admin and as host and was unsuccessful, I was able to create a new user and login with that ID but obviously had no access to do anything.  So I tried to access the database to see if the accounts were locked and I couldn't find the database in my sql server using studio express.  I think I've done something wrong in my web.config but not sure what.  I'm using SqlExpress.  the connection information is following.

 </configSections>
  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=gjstest\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=sa;pwd=lumucu;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=gjstest\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=sa;pwd=lumucu;"/>
    -->

help I'm lost.

you've changed the connectionstrings, but you forgot to change the remark symbols, so the default db is used (a user instance db in the app_Data directory of DNN). It should look like this:

 </configSections>
  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=gjstest\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005   -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=sa;pwd=lumucu;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=gjstest\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" /> -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules    -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=sa;pwd=lumucu;"/>

(red added to mark changes)

I would delete this installation and start a new one, because you obviously now have an installed dnn version with a db in the wrong location.
