Hi,
I have the same problem.
I created that Database.mdf, and changed the 2 places in web.config as required.
This is a third place, and  a different database. Please see the web.config:

<data

defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider">

<providers>

<clear/>

<add

name="SqlDataProvider"

type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider"

connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer"

upgradeConnectionString=""

providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\"

objectQualifier=""

templateFile="DotNetNuke_template.mdf"      <<<<< we don't have this guy!!!

databaseOwner="dbo"/>

</providers>

</data>

So it will never work until we have, or create this file somehow.
Please help!
Thanks,

Ron

I too have had similar problems.  I am still tyring to figure out what the system requirements for DNN 4 (my thinking is first not to blame the package but to confirm the environment is intended to support it) hoping to isolate where the problem may be.

No luck.  I can't find anywhere if DNN 4 will run in ISS 5 / SQL 2000 and if so, what else is required ASP 2 or 1.1 and if configuration is required by the OS for files in some way.

The installation documentation is confusing.  It begins by giving you instructions for DNN 3 and then you come to the part for DNN 4 which says do what you would do for DNN 3 except for xyz, and include abc.  Confusing!

I ran across the exact template error and copied the file from www.johnczimmerman.com site.  Select the download tab and copied it in the SQL Provider folder as instructed.

I now get the SQL Connection String error (which by the way no one has responded to - I guess I have tossed out a real puzzle).   Which I also ask, if I am not useing SQL Express should that entire section be removed?  If so, what else should be removed if you are using DNN 4 in a SQL 2000, IIS 5 environment.

Not everyone can continue to keep up with MS upgrades and lifetime purchase plans.

Thanks for letting me vent.  Oh, by the way, if anyone has any advice please share.

You will be happy to hear that DotNetNuke 4.x runs very well with IIS5 and SQL Server 2000.  I personally think using SQL 2000 is easier, but I thats probably just because I am used to it.  On your Windows 2000 machine, make sure that DotNet Framework 2.0 is installed.  Next, clock HERE to see my simple 4 page instruction guide that I made about a month ago.  I got frustrated with the supplied instructions, so I decided to make my own after I got my DNN4 up and running.  Trust me, once you know the steps, you will be able to setup DNN 4.x with your eyes closed.

Oh, if you get any of those errors listed above about missing document files, that only happens when you have a database connection issue, so you are not missing any files from your "install" directory.  When your database connection is correct, those errors go away.

good luck,

I did create one, just like in the install guide in the folder:

I then checked out the install template documentation and got this:

Configuring the Install Template for DotNetNuke

This section includes more detailed information on how to configure the install template for  DotNetNuke.
