Hi

my apologies, i am new at my organization.  someone asked me to uninstall and reinstall iis on a win2k server.  i did that and now dotnetnuke is no longer a web site.

my predecessor downloaded and installed dotnetnuke, did not document anything and now he is gone not to be found.

dotnetnuke was simply used as an intranet site.  it is on a node named -> \\grays and i can find dotnetnuke folders on the F: and G: drives with various things in them.  the intranet site is still there.  just something about the iis knowing to use dotnetnuke or something.  i tried adding a virtual server to both those drives and directories to no avail.

any help would be greatly appreciated and could you even shoot me an email if you post so i can look at it?   i am slugging away in the computer room.

thanks larry

larry.. maybe you should read up on IIS ;)

Anyway.... uninstalling IIS and then reinstalling it is not a very easy thing to do. You have to make sure that after you reinstall IIS, you also reinstall the proper ASP.NET frameworks. Depending on the dnn version you need ASP.NET 1.1 or ASP.NET 2.0 (if your dnn version starts with 3, then you need asp.net 1.1. You can find the version of your dnn in the table Version of the DNN database. Look for the last record in that table.. thats the dnn version you are running.

Next, create a new website (NOT A VIRTUAL DIRECTORY), and name that website "grays", and point that website to the DNN root folder.

Thank you Erik,

I sincerely appreciate your reply.   yea, you are right.  I'm actually a unix/apache guy so I didn't know what i was doing.  just enough to be dangerous.  My problem was we wanted to get a new asp.net/sql svr app running and the default web site was gone.  previous person deleted it.  i did not want to create a virtual directory under dotnetnuke.  so that is why i shot myself in the foot.  what i learned was you can only have one web site running.  i ended up just recreating the dotnetnuke web site in iis and stopped the (new) default web site and i will leave it at that.  we are putting our new asp.net/sql svr app on another box.  just too much hassle!

again, thank you for the reply, your former unix guy, soon to be a microsoft guy, larry
