I just downloaded 4.5.5's started kit (DotNetNuke_04.05.05_StarterKit.vsi), and installed it, but I'm not getting an option for "DotNetNuke Web Application" template any where. From "File" -> "New Webiste", it doesn't appear in "My Templates", and it doesn't appear in "Visual Studio installed templates" either. I also made sure to close Visual Studio 2005 before installing this.

I am following the "DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf" for 4.x, found under the "DotNetNuke 4.4.1" category, as there is currently no docs under the "4.5.5" category.

I'm on WinXP Pro SP-2 with Visual Studio 2005 Professional. AJAX and Crystal Reports also installed for VS 2005.

Any ideas why something so simple won't work? I even installed it a second time and it prompted me if I want to overwrite the old files, etc., so I know the template files are there. They're just not appearing as a selectable object in the "New Web Site" window.

Here's my "New Web Site" window:

I'm surprised no one has posted a solution or comments to this, because it's a known problem and a popular package. I had to do some digging (dotnetnuke.com's search is buggy), but I found the reason why: the starter kit's installer puts the template into the "Visual Basic" folder, making it impossible to load as a new template in VS 2005 without moving the .zip file manually up a directory or two.

To make matters worse, the template can't find a reference to a blog component:

Doesn't anyone do simple testing on this stuff before releasing it? I don't have any unusual configuration, just regular VS 2005 Pro.

It was unclear from your post whether you have a soltuion for this problem.  I have the same issue but am not sure how to fix it?

Can you outline the steps here please?

Thanks,

I get this problem as well on my XP machine but the template shows on my Vista machine.. I do get the blog missing part error on the Vista machine.

I ran across this problem and there is actually a quick fix for it. DNN is done in Visual Basic, not C# as you have selected. Change your language to Visual Basic and you'll have the new DNN project option. Change it back to C# and the option goes away. Silly little thing, really, but it works.
