I'm two days into trying a fresh install DNN 4.3.5 on Godaddy - just wondering if someone could confirm that its possible on the root.

It works, you just need to make sure you have performed all the steps properly.  Make sure that your web.config file is properly configured and that you have performed the steps to prepare it properly for a Go Daddy installation.  This thread has lots of good advice on install on Go Daddy.

Im so very lost.

I have followed 3 different tutorial's trying to install DNN on godaddy. (4.3.4) I have all permissions set according to northenstarsoultions's website. I have the connection string setup for my database correctly. I am getting the error on line 42 of the web.config file, for the machine key. (As posted earlier in this thread) Although I do not understand the soultion for this problem? I have tried both the Install and Source files, both with the same error.

And from personal experience with godaddy, they're a horrible company to work with. (Among 40 other issues, literally), I asked them to install 'THEIR free software' of DNN to my website, since i was unable to get it to work. They told me it was my fault it wasnt working and they dont provide support for third party software, that THEY provide. And incase you missed it, Godaddy is a horrible company. However they do provide the most in terms of 'product/service' for the least. Get what ya pay for I guess...

Archaniz,

I've done a non-root install of 4.3.5, instructions can be found HERE.

Some of the critical information I have gathered came from NorthernStarSolutions and they offer an install service.  That is always an option.

My experience with godaddy has been positive.  A decent registar, a decent host.  The limitations are known, it's a website hosting, not virtual server, so for $7/month I can play around with things.  If I want to bump up to $50/month I can get a virtual server which will allow me a lot more freedom.

The thing to remember, in my less than humble opinion, is that the tech support at GoDaddy, like hundreds of other companies, are hourly folks following a script.  they are not normally knowlegable on anything outside of that script.  The Value Application install of DNN is scripted and static.  It's hard to mess up the install, though you can screw up things during configuration, I promise you that, as I have done it.

Nearly two days ago I did succeed but the install only completed two modules and I couldn't access the portal but now I can't even get that far.The one time I did get an install I had used the web_.config file in backup from the Config Folder but now it doesn't generate that.

1 ftping all files to web root /username
2 creating database MS SQL
3 modify web.config with database info
4 created virtual folders for bin;Portals;DesktopModules;Config;images;Install;App_Code with permissions as per guidelines.
5 Browse website - intitally get http:403.1 error with install mode or The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] ) when trying again. At this stage I should be able to copy the web_.config file from the Config folder but its not creating a backup for me this time round. Completley fresh install - code/database and virtual directories.

Are there any clues as to why the backup is not being created?

I find that the most common cause of this error message is that the portal failed to install correctly.

Like Michael I was successful in installing DNN 4.3.5  in the root while only modifying the rights of the necessary folders on a shared hosting GoDaddy server.  Unfortunately,  I am experiencing horrible response times after intial page compiles  (10-12 seconds to access the login page).  I called support and they said their response times on my pages was a second or less and to try tracert.  I did, but nothing unusual there.

Are there any config tips why my response times suck?  I have not moved my domain yet and I am using the static ip to test the DNN site.

Thanks
