I tried to install the 4.5.5 on a blank database and the db script fails with a conversion error. The error conversion from string to integer is not valid. This is on sql server 2005.

I had the same exact problems. For a while I thought it was my Vista making all the problems. The database is created but once the db creation is completed the next link in the wizard. The exact error statement follows. It also displayes the progress bar and get stuck here.

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See D:\Development\DNNTestSites\DnnTest2\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See D:DevelopmentDNNTestS" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

OS - Vista
VS 2005 SP1+Sp1Vista, SQLExpress, IIS7.0

This error happens only when I run the starter kit (from VS 2005 or directly browsing), I was able to install and setup a DNN site on a Win 2003 server against SQLExpress 2005. Is this a Vista only problem? or may be just affecting the Starter Kit?

Btw, I did see one error message while VS 2005 was creating the project. It apparently was complaining about a file (3.0.0xxxx.SqldataProvider i guess) not found. Would this be the issue?

It took a while, but I figured out the problem. It seems that the collation was chosen wrong on the server when it was installed. The server was running a collation that was case sensitive and it caused alot the sql scripts to fail. We finally got it up by copying a database from another server. It ran, but we found alot of errors in the stored procedures that were due to case sensitivity. Example would be portalID and portalId.

Seems the only way to fix this is to reinstall sql server and choose the right collation for the server.
