Hi,

I wonder if anyone can advise me with this issue?

I've installed DotNetNuke 4.4.1 on SBS 2003 and I can visit the site while at the console by navigating to it's virtual folder: http://localhost/virtigo and I can use it, however if I visit the site from the internet by typing in its internet domain name (e.g. www.mydomain.com/virtigo) then I am immediately redirected to http://localhost/virtigo, which obviously fails with a 404 error....

I'm note sure if this is an IIS or a setting that I've missed somewhere..

Thanks,

Paul

you need to add the external address  www.mydomain.com/virtigo as portal alias in DotNetNuke: login from localhost as superuser "host", go to Portals in Host menu, select your portal, scroll dow settings page to the far end and add the address  www.mydomain.com/virtigo as portal alias.

While your question has already been answered, I'll add a couple more details that will help you understand why it's happening altogether.

In DNN installation, under Host Settings, there is a palce where you define which portal is considered a Host Portal. By default, it is the one that is created during initial installation. As you can see there, one of the settings is Host URL which, in your case, is most likely http://localhost/virtigo Of course you can change it to anything you'd like (including a url to some external site...)

When you navigate to www.mydomain.com/virtigo, DNN code needs to understand which pages/modules/etc. to show you - to do that, it reads your domain name and tries to find a Portal Alias that corresponds to that domain name. If it DOESN'T it redirects you to the Host Portal URL defined in Host Portal section of Host Settings. That is why you end up on localhost/virtigo path.

Attention users :) - this gets cached and you get stuck with this redirection even AFTER you correct the Portal Alias situation. So, you'll either have to wait for the Application to die or (simpler and faster) make a change to Web.config file (like a create and delete a space) and that will recycle the Application...

Thank you so much! This is the solution to the problem I've been trying to track down for a few hours!
